Our girls' dance studio hires a photographer to come in and do studio portraits every year, but I have never been happy with them, so have started also taking my own. This is one of the only times Kayla gets excited about taking pictures, because she loves the pretty costumes and make-up she gets to wear only a few times each year, for pictures and the recital. Cassidy is always my good little model and likes to try different poses and expressions, but even Kayla got into it this year! I love the one of the two of them because it shows their personalities so well, even if the pose would be more appropriate for hip hop than ballet! When Cassidy saw it, she said "That's my favorite...it's like, 'Bam! We're the best sister's ever!'" I love that they are so close!
I think 1 year/ cake smash shoots are my favorite. I love this age. It is so much fun! And who can resist a little one covered in frosting??? Landon is the son of good friends and was the first newborn I photographed besides my own. I can't believe that was already a year ago. Isn't he a doll? He wasn't so sure about the cake, but got messy enough anyway! I can't believe my first baby is already 6. Looking at these photos, I realize how grown up she is becoming. You can tell she is a true photographer's daughter because she did most of her own posing and was so excited to see the end result! I'm trying out a new strategy for finding potential clients. Click here to check out Three Ladybugs Photography on thumbtack.com! This is the adorable daughter of our friends Heather and Dan, whose maternity session I shot in February at just 10 days old. She was so tiny and such a great sleeper! I shot this adorable little guy and his family last week. He is so lucky to have two great big sisters who obviously love him very much. They were all so much fun to work with, so I am excited to show of these images! I photographed this little guy's family last fall and was excited to get to take his two year photos this week. He was a little suspicious of me and my camera at first, but once he warmed up, he was happy to show me all the sticks he found in the park and loved looking at the photos on my camera screen! There is one view that for me epitomizes Northern Colorado...the Rocky Mountains, of course, but more specifically, Longs Peak, which is pretty much always in the background when you are outdoors around here...so when the theme for week 8 was "the view from here," Longs Peak had to be in there somewhere. I had originally envisioned a shot like this for week 5 "Muse" because I am lucky enough to have gorgeous views like this almost my entire way home from work every day and it always inspires me to want to get out and shoot more landscapes, but I never get around to doing it. Of course, the weather and time were not on my side that week, so I was pleased that this week's theme also fit and the weather was much nicer to me! The theme for week 5 was muse...a muse is a source of inspiration. The most obvious subject was my kids, but I wanted to do something different. I had an idea, but it required good weather and my schedule allowing me to shoot during a very small period of the day and the two just never happened on the same day. I finally gave up waiting after I fell over a week behind and snapped a quick photo of one of my three little muses...Molly Jane Week 6 was words...with a kindergartener and preschooler in the house, there is a lot of focus on words in our house right now...reading them, writing them, spelling them...so, this one seemed pretty obvious! Since her sisters have both been in my project 52 photos twice each in the first 6 weeks, I decided it was my middle daughter, Kayla's turn this week. However, she is the hardest of the three to photograph because she hates the camera and clams up whenever I try to take pictures of her. She pretty much refuses to look at me or the camera when I have it in my hand. So, the challenge was finding an idea for this week's theme, "Open your heart" that would make her want to participate. Grandma and Grandpa sent the perfect prop in their Valentine's Day gift for the girls-little heart shaped boxes of chocolates! My plan was to get a picture of her opening it and/or eating one, but as I was working out my settings, I captured this shot of her waiting so patiently for mommy to tell her she could open her heart, how could I not use it? And yes, she still got to open it and eat one! |
